I would shy away from apple or acorn scents if there are non of these in your area. If you're trying to get to deer through their curiosity I'd recommend buck fever synthetics scents. Deer will investigte and look for other deer and BF makes great scents. There are a couple of active threads in the bow forum on th subject.
