It would help if you would post any distinguishing marks it had on it i.e. ... any writing or printing on it, dates of manufacture............shape and type of stock, length of barrel, ....you said it is a 22 hornet right? And definitely a Savage or a Stevens?

I found a Savage Model 219 that could be as you describe. Introduced in 1938 and dropped in 1965...
And a Savage 219L introduced in 1965 and dropped in 1967
My Modern book of Gun values is an old publication so the values listed are probably a little low, but not much.
