there's another smell to that story , and it smells fishy . There's no way that your freezer was off for only one day , even a crappy one filled that full should keep the food frozen for at least 2 days if the door isn't opened . After that the freezer would be at fridge temps for several days . My Dad had a stand up freezer that got unplugged once , it took almost a week before the food began to spoil . A solution of bleach followed by a baking soda scrub will remove most of the smell .
