RE: Pheasant plots
Keep the hedgerows wide, and plant as much as you can. A 1/2-1 acre plot may hold a few pheasants, especially if you leave it standing, and neighbors cut their corn, or other row crops.
Just leaving weeds to grow can help pheasants survive the summer. I heard ragweed is excellent for pheasant and quail because the can walk in it, but are sheided from above from hawks. I'd rather have corn I think though.
