Georgetownboy, I don't think there is a "special new season" it's just called archery season. I have seen a number of muledeer taken while still in velvet and some whitetail out west as well, so it really is nothing new or uncommon. As far as drying and cleaning, a deer can be measured in velvet without cleaning for pope and young. There is a checkbox on the score sheet to indicate this and the record will be listed with an * beside the name. As far as Boone and Crockett I don't think they accept velvet entries due to the fact that when rifle season comes in all of the bucks have deffinately lost their velvet while the same cannot be said for archery season.
