ive always cooked a big ol slab of bacon and then cook more bacon. but i never wash them. when done using, wipe with a disposible towel and get as clean as you can (if you cooked enough bacon it will be clean). then put it away . when you go to use it again preheat, wipe and use. no water no soap. just wipe. all my camp gear is cast. try a dutch oven.
