The Council will discuss Growing Greener II, outdoor tourism and long-range funding for Game and Fish and Boat commission infrastructure needs, Schlemmer said. Council will also discuss Sunday hunting.
That's an issue that figures to get more attention soon, as state Rep. Marc Gergely, a McKeesport Democrat, is getting closer to introducing a resolution that would direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to study the economic impact of expanding Sunday hunting opportunities. The study would also examine whether Sunday hunting would lead more kids to try hunting and explore how to protect landowners who don't want Sunday hunting on their lands.
More than 40 states allow Sunday hunting. Pennsylvania does, too, but only to a limited extent. Hunters can pursue crows, coyotes and foxes Sundays, but that's about it. Gergely would like to open things up, particularly for deer around urban areas.
