Ok, I'm not one to usually jump in on stuff like this, but I feel obligated to.
First off, I never read anywhere in SH91's post that HE laughed at the kill. It clearly states that his neighbor friend was laughing his head off. Maybe this means you should direct your flame at his neighbor?
Secondly, why is it so bad to laugh after one heck of a shot on a very small target (or any target for that matter)?! I know after every animal I shoot, I laugh histerically! Does it mean that I disrespect the animal? NO! It is just the way that I express my happiness. BTW, I also do a little jumping up and down and let out a couple "yee-haws". I fully respect the animals that I take and thank the Lord each and every time I get the chance to.
Thirdly, varmits are varmits, no matter how you put it. If you have to kill em, kill em. Do it with a bow, be proud that you were able to stay true with the shot.
Fourthly, Everybody needs to lighten up. Adults as well as kids. Yes it is wrong to disrespect your elders, but to sit and condemn a kid for shooting a chipmunk?! C'mon.
Fifthly, Whoever said that they don't hunt for pleasure is full of B.S.! Bottom line. Whenever Hunting starts to be boring and no fun at all, it's time to hang up the bow. Why do it if you don't enjoy it? (of course there are circumstances that some people absoutly need the meat) Obviously the killing part of hunting is not fun, but to be able to look at your trophy and feel the sense of acomplishment is absoutly undescribable.
SH91, relax bud. Be proud of your shot. Keep shooting. These guys are full of great advice and OPINIONS. Take what you will with a grain of salt, but always listen, think, then respond. I could see where your anger was coming from. Expressing it the way you did probably wasn't the best way. The reality of your story is aparent in your first post. You could have sugar coated it by leaving out some details, but you didn't. I agree with putting the chipmunk out of its misery and not letting it suffer. You will learn how to write better, more compelling stories as you go.
Everybody else, Think about when you were 12..... It may enlighten you as to what this young man was going through the day that he killed the chipmunk. Maybe you weren't killing nusience squirrles, maybe you were stomping on crickets or palmetto bugs (if your from down south) and were having the time of your life.... Think about it.
Enough of the flame. For some reason this thread got me fired up.
Be safe out there,
