I have a Remington model 597 stainless/laminate. With CCI Stinger's this rifle will group 5 shots under 1-2". I have never had any malfunctions with my rifle.
If you have a Remington 597 that does not malfunction, you need to send it to the Smithsonian Institute! I have NEVER seen the 597 praised on this board! The 597 is the worst piece of junk that has ever been marketed! If Remington was a good company, they'd recall them, and give us all our money back!
Judging by the 597 and 710, ALL remingtons are off of my "to buy" list!
