with shotshell reloading some primers are much hotter than others.....and I don't remember now which ones.....One of them is a Federal primer and the other (I believe) is the Fiochi)...anyway with shotshell reloading I stick to the published recipe even though some substitution can be allowed.

I've never been cautioned about rifle primers or handgun primers for that matter.....I've always assumed a large rifle primer is a large rifle primer regardless of the manufacturer. Granted I always back off and work up again anytime I change anything but primer substitution has never (so far) changed anything for me and that includes using a magnum primer in place of a large rifle primer.

Exchanging cases can get one in a pickle much faster than changing primers IMO.
