I regularly take hogs with a 30-30. Biggest has been just under 300lbs. Most never took another step. Longest track has been maybe 30 yards and if I remember right that was a bad shot placement. Entirely my fault. I shoot handloads of 170 gr. Speer FP powered by 30gr of H322. I have yet to recover a bullet when shooting at normal "hog range" here in the south.

However, if I were to be hunting some of the big Russian or European breeds I may go with a 270 or 30-06 with a heavy premium bullet. They can be a lot tougher than the feral hogs down here.
