RE: the alarm putt
I believe the alarm putt has to be given in a successive sequence for it to alarm birds that aren't in sight of the bird giving the alarm. When the alarm putt is given when turkeys are grouped together, the body posture of a bird will also indicate a threat and tell the rest of the flock that it's time to vacate the premisses. Most of the time with new hunters/callers, they do not deliver the correct sequence of the alarm putt but do hit a few of the same calling notes.
