I watched as the breeder inserted the chip the day we picked up the dog (avoid any confusion since they don't have a reader). I don't know how much the breeder paid for the kits, but it only cost us $12.50 to have the chip and our info registered. If you are willing to give a shot yourself with a large bore needle you can probably save a bunch. Damn that needle was big.

The microchip has not paid for itself yet, I hope I never need it to.
