The mange bug is a disease and it is more like a ring worm it grows under the skin eating the roots of the hair. I wouldn't worry too much about getting mange you would have to have it on you for a good period of time. We shoot about 30 to 40 a year with mange (coyotes and fox) and I have seen it up close more times than I would like.
