the quail are at the adult stage right now and are used to being taken care of... you may not want to release this batch to the wild until warmer weather comes... there will be insects, and vegetation for them to eat and have cover in.
when we sell pheasants to release to the wild they are about 5- 6weeks old. Theyare past the baby stage. But, not quite adult. This way they develop their sharpness to exist in the wild on their own. They don't get used to being taken care of.
The quail you have should covey back up to the pen if you leave a few of them in there..
