Default RE: 30-06 VS 270

Here is 270win post which I referred to in my reply.

magnum hunters

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have a 44 rem mag which is a beast. i also have a 300 rem ultra mag which is almost too much. i shot a spike in the shoulders and it just blood shot the meet. what do you think

Now given the fact the man owns a 30 cal capable of handling anything big, I would say he's picked the 270 for a reason - the small to average sized biggame ie;deer. Now when I look at what he has and maybe is missing it certainly isn't a 3006, because the RUM will beat it hands down for the applications of big or dangerous game....so therefore one would say go with a smaller, faster, flatter caliber offering some diversity to his gun locker. Others would fit the bill very nicely as well like the 7mm-08, 25-06, 260 rem and so on. I am sorry I just don't see how a 3006 will give him any benefit over a 270. If he was buying only one rifle for everything sure then you can argue the merits of the 3006, just isn't the case here.

BTW I owned a 3006 and still have a 270. Although right now my all arounder is a 7rm mag. I don't have a problem with the 3006 it is a good choice just don't see any great advantages(practically) to it over other calibers.

Bobby, that's right you tell the little woman who's the boss[8D]
