Default RE: 30-06 VS 270

Both are excellent...each has a slight edge over the other in a few small ways. Anybody with only one gun in either cartridge has a fine wide-range weapon. There isn't enough practical difference between them to get your shorts in a bunch.
I own a 30/06 but not a .270.....not because I don't like the .270 but only b/c I also own a .243, several 6.5 X 55's, a 7 X 57 and a .300 Savage. Those other rifles cover a lot of ground with much overlap. I know that the .270 would give me a little more of some things than any of my other rifles, but not so much that I need the .270 right now.
I think the .270 is one of the finest cartidges going....with it's parent case it would have to be. The combination of powder capacity and bullet diameter make it a very flat and quick killing cartirdge. Someday I hope to own one...but do not at all feel handicapped without one at this time.
