I don't know where you guys are hunting, but around here a feeder going off does not work like a dinner bell! I am sure that in some areas this is the case, but in most places, they come out when they get good and ready to. The good thing about timed feeders is that they can only get a certain amount of feed. With the gravity feeders I've used, they can empty one out over night when they want to, and/or coons and squirrels will empty them quickly too! Timed feeders are the way to go, and they do not scare deer away either. I've had deer under them when they go off and the deer will run off momentarily and then come right back. You are not likely to see a true trophy buck at a feeder in the daylight though!
