Back in the "day" numbers 1 through 61 each counted when Roger Maris broke the home run record. Over time the asterisk they put by that record became meaningless and in the end his accomplishment was fully accepted. When Maris' record finally fell in 1998 no one cared about that itty bitty mark (*).

When it comes to big bucks, legally taken, * means nothing in my book.
