Hey 30-06lover, I know this thread is old, but for anyone still struggling with a Shimano Curado:

1. Set spool tension so the lure falls slowly and stops when it hits the ground.
2. Start with 4 out of 6 brakes engaged inside the side plate.
3. Don’t overfill the spool....leave about 1/8 inch of space.
4. Cast smoothly from 2 to 10 o’clock, not too fast.
5. Avoid casting into the wind to prevent backlashes.
