I understand that it was not meant for a fine shot, but I still figured it would be fun to at least try it for turkey.

If you arer going to use it for turkey you want to give yourself the best chance to kill the bird and not send it off wounded to die and go to waste. Small shot is ok when you have a tight choke to give a tight pattern, instead of a choke you have the reverse of a choke..
