I don't feel that the 7MM Rem mag is too much gun for deer. It is a good all around caliber for everything in North America, except maybe for the largest bears!
As for the Remington Core-Loct's, I recovered a 150 gr. core-loct from a shoulder shot 8 pointer this year. I guess you could say the Core-loct did its job, but I was sorely disappointed in it. The jacket was deformed badly to one side and there was'nt much of the core left to it. Granted, it did hit a major shoulder bone, but at 80 yards, I think a better bullet like the Partitioner would have exited! How this deer managed to run 30 yards is beyond me, had he run for any length though, I may not have recovered him because of no exit wound!
Again though, I love the 7MM Rem. Mag.!
