at that time good used 45/70 marlins sold for only about $150 less than new blrs

I know I sold mine too cheaply when I upgraded to a browning BLR in 450 marlin
I prefer the strait grip BLR version
my marlin would consistently provide 2" 100 yard three shot groups, the blr does a bit better , at near 1.4" 3 shot bench rest groups,
but at about 140 fps faster with the same 405 grain bullet weight
I have a JM stamped Marlin 45-70 Guide gun with the ported barrel. I paid $350.00 for it from a guy that bought it new and only fired less than a half a box of ammo through it. I looks like new. The Marlin 45-70's were going for about $1000 to $1200 last I looked. I stole mine. The guy didn't want ot any more because he had crept up on the scope and got whacked on the eyebrow and he didn't want it any more. He was asking $450 which still would have been a deal but it is in my nature to dicker on asking price.
