Allow me to add a refreshing direct answer, one that doesn't depend on a philosophical treatment of your life choices...
I have a Vortex Strike Eagle 3 atop my .338 Federal. My particular version is the 3x-18x with the 44mm bell. It has a lighted reticle, and although I have no intention of 500 yard shots, I have little doubt this would meet that need. It has a 30mm tube, so I had to swap out the 1" rings.
You could obviously go for an equivalent/similar set up from any of the big names, Leupold especially. My main takeaways personally are:
- 1" tubes are usually limiting. Probably need to go to 30mm for most past 3x-9x.
- Lighted Reticle - great for bear hunting. The SE3 has a big illuminated crosshair, whereas the Leupolds tend to have small dots. Choose your preference.
- 40 and 44mm bells are common. Once you get above 44mm, price and weight tend to go up dramatically.
Your 7mm is very similar in size and power to my .338, so consider the Vortex Strike Eagle 3. About $400-$500.
I looked at the Vortex Viper (about $1,000) but when I saw one, I thought it was far too big and heavy.
