Ed's Bullets
I was able to get out shooting today finally as I refuse to do any work on Sunday and it wasn't raining. Ed sent me a bunch of his 350 gr HP cast bullets a bit ago to try in my 1:30 twist Green Mountain .45 cal percussion barrel to see how they shoot. He is wondering what twist rate to get in a new barrel. I shot 3 groups of 5 shots each. (The 85 grain charge has 6 shots because I had called a pull.)
All shots were at 50 yards with open sights using a 1/8" felt wad below the bullet. Charges were 75, 85 and 95 gr of Goex FFFg and average velocity was 1248, 1307, and 1398 fps respectfully. Because of the oncoming rain I was firing pretty much as fast as I could load and swab between shots. With more time and a scoped rifle I believe the groups could even be better. But I am well pleased.
Group sizes were 2" (4 in 1.125") with 75 gr charge, 1.062" with 85 gr and 2" even for the 95 gr charge. I'm liking these bullets a lot. They are shooting right up there with my 370 gr paper patched bullets.
