Try that with the licking branch...that will really get them going.

As far as the ground you can just pee in it yourself and it will work just as good as deer pee but that licking branch is where the good stuff is. The ground will get worked around the rut but they will work that licking branch all year long.

Location is key though. Its not going to draw deer in but it will put the deer that are already there in front of your camera/stand.


I'll hang a piece of old barn rope or untreated Manila rope. It really soaks up the orbital scent and that is what you want. Hang it in the right spot and you don't have to do anything but if you hang a couple/several pieces at each scrape site you can take a piece from an active site and start a new site or switch a piece out with another active sight. Obviously you have to be very carefull not to leave your own scent on the site or rope. I wear rubber boots and gloves.

Hang a camera on them and this is the easiest way Ive found to pattern and get guys on mature bucks
