Dead soft lead will flow in between the petals of a sabot when fired. If the sabot is tight you will probably even deform the ball a little on loading.

The critical part though is not getting the jag caught IN the sabot or you risk it pulling the sabot off the powder. You can either cut the sabot petals way back or maybe just use a much smaller jag like a 36cal.
