Red do you hand load?
if so slow the bullet down, if you ever shot a deer at 500 yards with that rifle, you would get the same results as you would at 100 with your 30-30. a controlled expansion bullet help. hold middle ways 4" behind the pocket tight behind the shoulder, you'll hit back third of the lungs, take out the liver, will be a short tracking job if any, and all you'll lose is a bit of rib meat, you'll get about 5 pounds of ground meat off of each shoulder on a 120-130 deer. don't care much for head/neck shots they don't bleed out and are a mess to clean up.
