It's a shame TC didn't offer it in all the models. I think the majority of TC sidelocks are shot with a PRB. The 1-48 is ok for a PRB if the rifling is deep, but TC made shallow rifling more suited for conicals.

What they should have offered is separate barrels you could buy like the GPR. a conical barrel and a PRB barrel. They would have sold like crazy and there never would have been a need for the GM drop in barrels.

Our original flintlock (late season) remained a PRB only season for many years and that's why the PA hunter came on the market. The state eventually changed the regs to allow conical and saboted projectiles in the mid 90's (I believe). T/C did offer a 1:66 twist barrel through their custom shop for a brief period, but that eventually fell by the wayside as well.

The .56 smoothbore Renegade was T/C's attempt to market their guns in Massachusetts where only smoothbore firearms were allowed for big game. It to fell out of grace after Mass. passed regs allowing rifled shotguns and muzzleloaders.
