I have a savage 111 made in the 1990s. Excellent gun and drives nails. Savage is known for out of the box accuracy. The design of the gun promotes it. If you research the model 110, you'll find that the lock nut they use to attach the barrel allows for a very precise headspacing that promotes accuracy.

Mine is pre-accutrigger, so I have no experience with that. However, they're supposed to be sweet.

A savage axis would be a good functional gun if you can't afford a lot of frills. The essentials of the action are the same.
