I was thinking the same as you about the velocity and i run a bore snake through the barrle about every 5 to 10 shots. i will try shooting at water like you suggested and see what happens. Ive only seen this one time before with a 7MM08 loaded hot and it looked like you shot the target with a shot gun then.
