Canon T2 or higher with a standard fast lens
I've used a range of Canon and Nikons, but to not break the bank and have a reliable setup, you can't go wrong with a Canon T2 or newer and a fast Canon EF 50mm F/1.8, and a decent zoom lens for those long range shots. I never leave home without the Standard 50mm.
