New guy here, been reading things on this site for a while though. Just got into deer hunting 3 years ago. Missed one my first year, shot two doe last year, had a heck of a year this year with a muzzleloader buck and 3 doe with the rifle. My buck (first ever buck) is a story I'll never forget. Took my 4 year old son and my 7 year old daughter out with me for the first time and had a nice 8 pointer come out. We watched him for 15 minutes and then I took him with (first muzzleloader deer also). Got him field dressed with the kids help and then hung in the barn. While skinning I got in a hurry and ran the skinning knife deep in the palm of my hand. I was pretty calm as I didn't want the kids to freak out. Drove an hour to the ER, got 8 stitches and finally walked out of there at 1 in the morning. Got the buck on the wall, a nice scar on the palm and a memory that will last forever. Even with the cut, wouldn't change a thing. Getting to harvest a deer with my two kids was one of the greatest joys I've had in life so far.
