This is a very good point here. In my younger days of "collecting" firearms, I was (and still am) a HUGE advocate for the 16ga. Anytime that I had extra money and was out looking for another shotgun, I would be delighted to find a 16 ga on the used gun racks of the local gun shops. To me they where a joy to shoot at the range and I also loved to go hunting with them. The 16 ga. holds sentimental value for me (as it was my first gun that I hunted Whitetails with) To me it carries a certain nostalgia to it when it is chambered in a relic type shotgun.

When I was first "accumulating" all my 16 ga's ; finding shells for them was not much of a task. And it seemed if I wanted any specialty ammo, it could easily be found at gun shows or a whole bunch of the old timers had bundles of it in their cabinets or reloading rooms. In my current experiences, the availability of the 16 ga just is not as plentiful anymore. I wish it where different because i really enjoyed shooting slugs out of mine.

9 times out of 10, if I where to go into Gander mountain and ask for a good quality sabot slugs for the 16 ga; they look at me like I have a third eye in the middle of my forehead.

I still don't regret buying all those 16's though.
