A lot of it depends on the terrain your hunting, normally the less trees the higher the stand. I've been hunting mostly Texas and Oklahoma for 40 plus years and I never get off the ground more than 15 feet.

Of course now the older I get I like to stay on the ground as much as possible.


I tend to rely more on wind direction and scent control more than anything else.
