I've got three ladders, and they are all around 15 feet. Last year, had one set up with only 2 ladder sections, so it was about 12 feet, because it was in a swampy area with few decent trees, and that was the highest option. Saw some deer, and didn't get busted. It was in a fairly thick, bushy tree.
In my experience, I have a hard time finding a tree I can get up more than 15 or so in my climber.

I have shot deer from a 7ft stand. In order to hunt this spot I had to get lower than the tree foliage. I made sure when I set the stand is that I had cover behind me to break my outline up. I played the wind right and never had a deer bust me from that low.

12-16 feet is plenty high.

Why do you think they are the wrong height? Got a do what it takes and if what your doing isn't cutting it, change.

I killed a deer this year out of a stand I had just put up about 10' under another I'd hunted out of for many seasons and think if I would've climbed to the high one the bedded buck not fifteen yards away would've busted me. I put the lower one up because I couldn't get the shots I thought I would need.

There's no perfect height for stands. It all depends on the terrain & what you will have for cover. I have 5 stands & they vary from 8'-25' in height. I have deer walk within 3yds of my 8' stand regularly.

I agree with this. On avg most of my stands are 15-18 ft up.
