I just bought one in 280 Rem. It's a good handleing gun. My other 2 rifles are Model 70's in 25-06 & 243 and I can't tell much of a difference in recoil and my X-Bolt is probably a good pound lighter than my Model 70's.
If you want something in between a 270 & 7mag...look at a 280.
