The scentlock clothing is definitely not necessary. I wear warm clothes, and I take a bath and wash my clothes before I go hunting. Before walking to my stand, I will spray down with cover scent or something fruity like C'mere Deer. With that being said, if a deer walks downwind of you, he will probably smell you.
