a great patch material is white flannel you can pick up at just about any Walmart. I cut it into about 1 1/2 - 2" squares and with the proper jag is nice and snug. Now it takes a bit of time to cut a yard of material into these squares. especially if you don't have a roller cutter. I use a steel yardstick, a utility knife and a 1x4 for my cutting surface to cut the material into strips. Then my scissors to cut the strips into squares.
