Default RE: coyotes, to kill or not to kill, your take!

Well Rackluster your not alone. It kind of disturbes me to se hunters say " kill them all" . To me coyotes are an essential part of the ecosystem, just as hunters are.

Coyotes are not a malevolent creature, they are doing what they can to survive and feed their family, no more than we do when we enter the woods.

Two months ago I watched a pack of coyotes take down a healthy yearling bull elk. It was awful to watch, yet they weren' t out for revenge they were looking for a meal.

Dont get me wrong when coyotes are in abundance thinning is definately required.

Coyotes do take their toll on lots of game species (turkeys, antelope, deer and elk)
at one time coyotes were the dominant predator in Yellowstone, taking down more game species than the other predators, including cougars ,grizzlies, and wolves.

Predators keep game animals on their toes, they heighten the flight responses prey type animals. Without them deer, elk , turkeys would have no reason to flee. Might as well shoot the neighbors cow standing in the pasture.

So the next time you think that you would like to kill them all, think how proud you would be to have that holstien cows head mounted in the living room.
