I have one that is similar. But mine is a god bit heavier. I use it alot for varmint hunting. And yes I also use it in my ground blind whenever I am doing any long distance deer hunting(over 200 yards). For anything under 200 yards I just use my cross sticks.

And you are right about being very good for teaching kids to shoot. And steadying things up for them so they can score on game. Tom.
