I start at 25 yards and go from there. If things are waaaaaay off you can save some ammo.
Yeah, usually I will boresight a rifle, then shoot at 25 yards then go out to 100 yards. I will sight my rifles in two inches high at 100 yards and make sure the groups are consistent before I go out any further.
Sometimes I'll do it off of a bench and sometimes off of a pack across the seat of a four wheeler.
