I have been told by conservation agents that once a deers antler is damaged during the velvet phase, that the deer' s antler gene, for lack of a better description, has a " memory" to it an will duplicate the defect in the following years antler developement. How much of this is true, I am not sure, but I wouldn' t be suprised.
