My guess is that either you scratched the scope or you washed off part of the lens coating. Some scopes come with some sort of Rain guard applied at the factory and your wipe disturbed it.

About your best bet is to use some Windex and see if you can't clean it up a little. If you did scratch it - send it back. That is what a warranty is for.
