Other land owners may have changed their mind over the years (e.g. if a relative starts hunting, they may cancel permission for others, etc), land changes hands, the hunters may have moved to a new area over the years, etc.

The fact that they are seeking you out should not necessarily raise any undue suspicions in itself.
