I would have been able to take a shot at either bull with a rifle.
It is very dry in the area. There is hardly ever any water in the " streams" and drainages you see on the map. Piceance creek will have water it always does but there is a lot of private land in the valley. Along the white river near monument gulch is a pretty good bet as well. No more elk for me this year, only permitted one license (except certain circumstances, which I didn' t meet).
