Hogs like that are why we quit using small caliber rifles to hunt them. We normally shot them in the head but we can't get a head shot we shoot them behind the shoulder. The last big one we shot like that we counted at least 5 scars in his shield were he had been shot before and it healed up. We shot it with a 200 grain .35 and at 60 yards it still stopped short of going through the far side. We recovered the bullet under the skin on the far side. I have a .450 Marlin I use that is great for big hogs. It is bigger than I need but I don't have to worry about them running off and having to track them through heavy brush.
