RE: what bout them cows?
Generally, I' ve never seen deer within sight of cattle, but I know they sometimes feed the same pastures. I' ve observed this in South Texas where you may have cows for 30 minutes or so that feed through your stand area and then see deer in the same area 30 minutes or so later.
I had a weird experience about 5 years ago while rifle hunting over a powerline right-of-way. It was during a steady rain and a bunch of cows exited the woods right under me and made their way south throught the right of way. A nice 6 point buck moved right through the group of cows going north and stopped right under my stand. I shot him at no more than 20 yards (the cows had cleared the right-of-way by then and were no longer in the way).
Sometimes the deer are just " where you see them" and you can' t explain it. I always say " expect the unexpected" .
