Pigs carry all sorts of diseases that can infect humans. This doesn't mean that every pig you come into contact with is infected. Just wear gloves, I'm with der Teufel on nitrile over latex. Rabies and pseudo-rabies are just two diseases to be careful of.

Be careful when dressing a pig wtih any nodules on the inside of the ribs or connective tissue in the lung/chest area. Pigs with tuberculosis often have them. Most bodies of freshwater in the forest here are infected with Leptospirosis spread by feral hogs through urine or feces.

Pigs habit of scavaging dead things, humans included, makes them vectors for many diseases It is also one reason why some cultures consider pigs and pork taboo.
