I was as well but if you think about it you are making up for it with the extra thickness of the riser. It is a solid bow. Need to get back at it one of these days and try some more. It is soo much fun making them.
I am still crazy about selfbows. But I have enough material to make 2 more bamboo and hickory backed bows. They were easier to tiller. Kent (burniegoeseasy) makes some of the best ipeboo bows I have seen.
I think if I started with 3/4" IPE stock, I would cut in the shelf more. But the stuff I have is tongue and groove flooring. I did use a powerlam. The main reason I want to cut in more is I have to use 40-43lb spined POC for my 56lb IPE/Boo. I know if I was more center shot I could use 50lb spine.
